| WAYS YOU CAN GET INVOLVED | |
| ...Ideas
for activities: In organising an activity for NAIDOC week remember that you must budget for everything involved. No matter how simple and low cost the activity may be, it will need to be advertised and promoted in some way. If you use an artist, even though they may perform without a fee involved you should budget for things like accommodation and travelling expenses. Finally, remember that you are not alone and can call on the help and advice from your local NAIDOC committee. The following is a short list of suggested activities, big and small that you might consider organising for NAIDOC week. * record interviews with elders about their life in the past and offer the tape to you local radio station. * fund an art or poster display in public place like your local shopping centre. * organise a series of events for a local primary school to teach children a song, story or craft. * organise a film/ and or video festival by or about Indigenous people. |
* arrange an Indigenous
Education Conference and invite speakers from various Indigenous Education
Units in your area. * fund a legal seminar and invite field officers from the Aboriginal Legal Service to talk about Indigenous people and the law. * run a sports coaching session using prominent Indigenous sports people as coaches. * organise a health seminar and invite speakers on community and dental health, nutrition and child care areas. * organise a formal reception with the Premier of your state. * contact your local Council in relation to having a flagraising ceremony. * arrange open days at Aboringal organisations. * hold a youth forum, inviting Indigenous youth to speak about issues in their community. * arrange a pride march in the main street of your town. Remember, there are many ways that we can promote NAIDOC and share the Indigenous culture with Australians. |
